The Best of Paris Design and Decoration our 2024 Edition

Full of Inspirations and Colours Directly from Paris
Every January, Paris becomes the capital of the world of interior. This year, I flew over to be part of two exciting events: Maison & Objet, a large trade fair, and Paris Deco Off, an event showcasing the latest trends in textiles, art, and furniture, featuring the best of Paris Design and Decoration’s latest collections by our leading suppliers.
Travelling is good for creativity and invigorating for the mind; I take this quote to heart as it brings me an enormous boost in creativity and energy to run my business.
HANDCRAFTED FURNITURE
A significant part of running my business is having an excellent team of tradesmen who can bring my vision to life when designing interiors for my clients.
It was interesting to see how the French government supported those artisans and trade professionals to keep their trade viable. I was amazed at the vast knowledge these artisans and professionals possess; it’s lovely to see their trades celebrated, showcasing their “savoir-faire” through these events.
Having the same level of government support here in Australia would be great for maintaining manufacturing and expertise.
Moissonnier, a renowned craft-maker of luxurious period furniture, has given this handcrafted commode a new twist by using the Japanese technique of “shou sugi ban,” which involves charring the wood using a torch. This unique piece exudes an authentic charm that can serve as a focal point in any interior.

Guided by the Colourful Lampshades
The streets of Paris are adorned with oversized pendant lights crafted from fabrics supplied by textile manufacturers. Oversized armchairs are also placed in public spaces and look charming when dusted with snow.

FURNITURE
ROUNDED CURVE
The shape of sofas and armchairs features soft, enveloping curved forms, and they are upholstered with rich fabrics, like wrapping your body in a warm shawl.

MIXING DIFFERENT STYLES
COMFORT IS A MUST
In 2024, your home will be a place of comfort and relaxation. You can mix different period styles, as this low-back modern sofa is paired with these ornate Art Deco-style lights. I particularly love how the cushions add a country feel, while the jute material provides a textural element.
WINTER IN PARIS

FIVE DAYS OF ART, DESIGN AND GOOD FOOD
During my five-day trip to Paris, I visited some of my favourite museums, including the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée du Luxembourg, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, and the Centre Pompidou. These museums showcased various art and design, from modern to antiquity and fashion. I also found time to stock up on paint and brushes at Sennelier, an old art supplies shop along the Seine River, with its knowledgeable staff and character. Overall, the trip was refreshing and left me feeling reinvigorated and ready to design comfortable interiors for our clients.
