The Lawson Residence Project

A Modern Elegant Interior

THE BRIEF of a PRIVATE RESIDENCE

Our clients, a professional couple, asked us to design their formal lounge and dining space.

THE EXISTING

This private residence in a leafy suburb of Sydney has a well-designed layout with separate areas to cater to a large family.
Two large spaces in the house, the lounge and dining rooms, were ready for a makeover. The formal living and dining rooms were old and dated with bland colour schemes. A great decoration lift would improve the rooms from drab to modern with a touch of elegance.

The rooms had great potential to become what the client had in mind for a modern yet elegant formal style.
In our first meeting with the client, we established the design brief; we looked at an inspirational photo showing a grand salon in a Danish Palace that our clients liked.

INSPIRATIONAL PHOTO

An inspirational photo of an existing space helps conceptualise a clearer vision of the client’s goals.
This image gave us a good idea of what our client liked and the kind of style and colour to work with.
Following our first meeting, we had all the specifications to create a “modern elegance” living and dining room.

In this instance, a photo helps create a “common language”.
This “common language” forms a better client-to-designer relationship. We are achieving smoother and faster results from concept to design completion.

A SUMMARY of THE BRIEF:

  • The colour blue had to be dominant, especially in the lounge room
  • A rug with a luxurious feel underfoot and preferably blue
  • Seating had to be of utmost comfort, with back support
  • To include seating for entertaining at least eight guests
  • A reading nook with good lighting
  • The existing bookcase, coffee table and one console table were to stay
  • The dining table had to be the star of the room
  • We had to find an extra storage solution for tableware
  • An existing buffet in the dining room was to stay
  • Work with the client’s existing artwork and accessories

CONCEPT PRESENTATION

We presented our initial concept with positive feedback.
We set out to “test” the furniture we specified by visiting our trade showrooms with our client.
At our trade showroom visit, we discussed sofa lengths, back heights, timber colour stains, and adjusted armrest width.
We looked at wool strands and a selection of colour dyes for the rugs to achieve the desired finish.
The client approved the colour tone for the walls; the painters can start revamping the spaces.
The process was smooth, and we achieved a cohesive, elegant and comfortable scheme for the two rooms.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE | THE INSTALLATION

Our team of tradesmen worked to achieve a perfectly tailored interior for our clients at this private residence.
We completed the task with the joiner replicating and matching the design of an existing console table.
The joiner re-stained the existing coffee table to match the two console tables.
Lighting, including floor and table lamps, adds a unique touch.
All the soft furnishings, including the pelmets with their added detailed border, are beautifully crafted.
Two custom rugs installed are a work of art; it’s divine; the colour blue is very much present in this room but not too overbearing. The room has a certain calmness about it.
The painter worked efficiently. The wall paint finish in the lounge room is a perfect blue. We love the detailed colour of part of the cornice; it adds a luxurious touch to the room. The wallpaper application in the dining looks refined.
Our suppliers delivered all our custom furniture on schedule!
Six months is what this project took to complete.

THE LAST DETAILS

The Dinner Set

Now that the dining room of this private residence is complete and ready to entertain large family gatherings, the beautiful Wedgwood dinnerware was incomplete. Our clients asked us to source a discontinued Wedgwood dining set. Plates and bowls needed to be sourced to complete the set. At least 12 of each would be the minimum requirement for entertaining many guests. We set out to find such, and to our client’s surprise, we supplied the missing pieces!

A Modern, Elegant and Inviting Living and Dining Rooms

Our clients have complimented us for their stunning new spaces. They’ve told us that the dining room is now regularly used to host formal dinners and family Christmas. After a formal dinner, they love how guests can easily move from the dining space to the living room for after-dinner drinks and coffee. The living room is a wonderful retreat to come and read a book day or evening.
We accomplished what our clients wished for: versatile spaces enjoyed all year round. We are thrilled with the result and for our clients to enjoy the space for many years.
