The Lawson Residence Project
THE BRIEF of a PRIVATE RESIDENCE
Our clients, a professional couple asked us to design their formal lounge and dining space.
This private residence is set in a leafy suburb of Sydney. It’s a well-designed layout with separate areas to cater for a large family.
Two of the larger spaces in the house had been overlooked.
The formal living and dining rooms were old and dated with bland colour schemes.
The rooms had great potential to become what the client had in mind for a modern yet elegant formal style.
The brief was established on our first meeting with the client.
All the specific requirements noted, supported by an inspirational photograph. The photo shows the lounge room set in a Danish Palace. This gave us a good idea of what our client liked, the kind of style and colour to work with.
Following our first meeting, we had all the specifications to create a “modern elegance” living and dining room.
Having a photo of an existing space helps conceptualise a clearer vision of what the client is wishing to accomplish.
In this instance, a photo helps create a “common language”.
This “common language” forms a better client-to-designer relationship. Achieving smoother and faster results from concept to completion of a design.
A SUMMARY of THE BRIEF:
• The colour blue had to be dominant especially in the lounge room
• A rug with a luxurious feel underfoot and preferably blue
• Seating’s had to be of utmost comfort, with back support
• To include seating for entertaining at least 8 guests
• A reading nook with good lighting
• The existing bookcase, coffee table and one console table were to stay
• The dining table had to be the star of the room
• We had to find an extra storage solution for table wear
• An existing buffet in the dining room was to stay
• Work with the client’s existing artworks and accessories
THE CONCEPT for a MODERN ELEGANCE LOUNGE & DINING
Our initial concept was met with positive feedbacks.
We set out to “test” the furniture we specified with the client.
Showrooms visit were scheduled, we discussed sofa lengths, back heights, timber colour stains, adjusted sofa armrest width.
For the rugs, we looked at wool strands and selection of colour dye to achieve the desired finish.
The exact colour tone for the walls was approved.
The process was smooth and we achieved a cohesive, elegant and comfortable scheme for the two rooms.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE | THE INSTALLATION
Our team of tradesman worked to achieve a perfectly tailored interior for our clients at this private residence. The task was completed with the joiner replicating and matching the design of an existing console table.
The joiner re-stained the existing coffee table to match the two console tables.
Lighting, including floor and table lamps add a unique touch to the space.
All the soft furnishings including the pelmets with its added detailed border are beautifully crafted.
Two custom rugs installed are a work of art; it’s divine, the colour blue is very much present in this room but not too overbearing. The room has a certain calmness about it.
The painter worked efficiently. The wall paint finish in the lounge room is a perfect blue. We love the detail colour for part of the cornice, it adds a luxurious touch to the room. The wallpaper application in the dining looks refined.
Furniture was delivered on schedule!
6 months is what this project took to complete.
THE LAST DETAILS
The Dinner Set
Now that the dining room of this private residence is complete. The table and seats are ready to entertain up to 10 guests, but the dinner set was incomplete. Plates and bowls were missing. A set of at least 12 of each had to be included.
Our clients asked us to source a discontinued Wedgwood dining set. We set out to find such and to our client’s surprise, we supplied the missing pieces!
We thrive on a project as such.
These two beautiful rooms are most enjoyed by our clients. From entertaining large gathering to finding a quiet spot to read.
We accomplished what our clients had wished for, versatile spaces that can be enjoyed all year round.
